Sinopse:
Toda a trama de Yu-Gi-Oh! gira em torno da história do garoto Yugi Mutou, um grande jogador de Monstros de Duelo (o jogo mágico de cardgame que virou uma mania em todo o mundo). O que Yugi e a maioria das pessoas não sabem é que o Monstros de Duelo se trata da versão moderna do incrível Jogo das Trevas que era jogado pelos grandes faraós a cerca de 5.000 anos atrás. Porém a versão antiga, que reunia monstros e magias de verdade, era muito poderosa e ameaçou destruir o mundo, foi então que um grande faraó aprisionou o jogo em sete Relíquias Milenares.
Neste anime os jogos são disputados em uma grande arena holográfica onde os jogadores lançam os seus cards e deles surgem monstros e magias para ajudá-los em seus duelos. Toda essa ação, com grandes e poderosas batalhas de encher os olhos, é o foco de Yu-Gi-Oh!.
O anime começa quando Yugi ganha de seu avô um quebra-cabeça com várias peças douradas. Quando finalmente ele é montado, Yugi é incorporado por Yami Yugi, pois o quebra-cabeça é na verdade uma das Relíquias Milenares, o Enigma do Milênio, mas isso só se revela quando Yugi duela com o campeão mundial de Monstros de Duelos, Seto Kaiba, e a partir desse momento, Yami passa a se apossar do corpo de Yugi toda vez que ele entra em um duelo.

Este anime retrata a verdadeira história, sem alterações, cortes ou censura. Ele segue muito bem o mangá (claro que com pequenas modificações devido a adaptação), mas nada que se compare com o que a 4kids fez. A 4Kids que tem sede nos EUA, comprou os direitos autorais e adaptou o anime, modificou (Lê-se infinitas modificações),fez muitos cortes e alterações nos diálogos e roteiro, ou seja, Yu-Gi-Oh! Versão original japonesa, Vai muito além das expectativas de qualquer um. Assista você vai se surpreender....
